About this qualification:
This qualification covers workers in children’s services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements
By January 2014, 50 percent of educators working with children of birth to preschool age in a centre based environment will need to hold or be working towards a Diploma level qualification. All Family day care coordinators working with children aged birth to 13 years must hold a Diploma level qualification

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children's wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously

Pre- entry Requirements:
No pre-requisites are required however a current National Police Check will be required to complete work placement hours.
Qualification Structure:
Employment Based
Minimum of 240 hours Work Experience/Placement in an Approved Early Childhood Service; Must work with children from 0 – 6 years (Babies, toddlers and Pre-school Children); Will be required to keep a log book that will need to be signed by the supervisor at the site daily; Will involve liaison between the Trainer and Service Supervisor for conduct of workplace observation and sign of be required to complete workplace projects in the service
Theory Based
There are 28 units to complete, 23 compulsory and 5 electives. Electives will be chosen at the time of enrolment. They must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and qualification level.

Delivery and Assessment:
We offer students the flexibility of blended delivery. Assessment methods allow for the gathering of sufficient quality evidence about the student’s performance. Methods used include question and answer, observation and demonstration, and case study.
